aMuse @ Ikea
Ikea in Cardiff Bay is hosting what is described as "a unique experiment" and "the first of its kind; an answer to the credit crunch and the disappointments of the consumer society".
One of the city's largest stores, Ikea is set become a cultural centre enabling strangers to meet and discover what they can do together.
aMuse@Ikea will include classes in cooking, guitar/ukelele playing, dancing, reading, fashionable dressing on a low budget and English lessons for non-native speakers.
There will also be educational treasure hunts for the young, a Welsh Dragons' Den to encourage amateur inventors, sleep seminars, preventive health facilities to forestall avoidable illness, collaboration with public service and voluntary associations, talks and seminars on environmental issues and exhibitions of the talents of all sections of society to promote Welsh culture, including music and dance of all kinds.
"The credit crunch is an opportunity to discover what else is possible", say organisers Tim and Laura, "and Ikea Wales is going to host this adventure.
"We are looking for Cardiff-based musicians who would welcome the opportunity to reach a wider audience (and in doing so broaden the horizons of others), either by performing their music, dancing to music or even just talking about their interest in music and dance.
"We are interested in all styles of music: folk, pop, jazz, hip-hop, metal, blues, world music, classical, opera, and all styles of dance.
"Around 40,000 people move through the store each week. You have a captive audience! The project has already begun on a small-scale, but we envisage a major launch at the beginning of April".
