Keep It Down For Noise Action Week
As we all know, the city is so much better than the countryside. There are buses and trains and things to do. But one thing that the countryside has over the city is peace and quiet when you need it.
In Cardiff, the council’s noise service deals with over 3000 complaints a year. That’s over 8 a night. People blasting their stereos, cranking the telly up, shouting and raving and making a racket. This is all good fun for the people making the noise, but not for their neighbours.
Half of the 3000 complaints are over amplified music and often the result is that this equipment (stereos, decks, sound-systems, sub-woofers and televisions etc) is confiscated by Noise Enforcement Officers.
Instead of piling this stuff up and letting it gather dust, the noise service (part of Pollution Control fact fans) have donated it to the Youth Service, to equip their youth centres. So if you pop down your local youth centre there should be a sweet sound-system. To locate your's click here.
The noise service decided to do this good deed this week as it is Noise Action Week 2010.
