Oxfam GROW Launch In Cardiff
Oxfam Cymru yesterday (Wednesday 1st June 2011) launched the Welsh leg of the global GROW campaign outside Cardiff Castle.
According to Oxfam "The System's Bust" and it is up to us to fix it. What system? The most important of all, the food system.
As it stands, nearly one billion people don't have enough to eat. It is only going to get worse if we do nothing.
What's the matter? A lot of things; land grabs by multinational companies, spikes in food prices disproportionally affecting the world's poorest hardest, climate change making once fertile land barren and a century of unsustainable intensive farming. As you can see there are some big issues but they have to be tackled. That is why Oxfam have launched GROW, a global campaign that will run for years.
Chris from Oxfam Cymru explains it a lot better in the video up top there.
But before I go, I just want to say thank you again to the lovely people at Oxfam Cymru for putting on the event in Cardiff and especially to The Ethical Chef who provided some stupendous grub; pesto pasta, brie, fresh bread, some sort of lentil loaf thing and some polenta in a fabulous wholegrain mustard sauce. All for free as well. See there is such a thing as a free lunch! It was so good I overcame my fear of bongos.
Currently Oxfam Cymru don't have another event planned in Cardiff just yet but keep an eye on our events calendar and as soon as we know you'll know!

Haha good end to the video there. Chris from Oxfam Cymru is also very tall...or you were sat on the ground while filming :p good video though, and a good cause.

It was an artistic decision to shoot from below as it gives the subject an air of authority (and vice versa) and has nothing to do with me being 5'4". Honest
