Alongside young men knocking on your door pretending to be carol singers, office wags/pervs with mistletoe in their belts, and panic buying on Amazon, you can add jumping about the bottom floor of Clwb Ifor Bach to the list of essential 21st Century Christmas traditions.

A stellar line-up of young local bands quite literally rocked Clwb for theSprout’s Xmas Jam, fuelled on talent, goodwill and mince pies, all admirably compared by Ludus Ludius.

Inconsiderate Parking brought quirky offbeat rearrangements to the party, while Just Like Frank came through with some proper Welsh language business (hey, we tick all the boxes). Young punks Kamikaze Veterans threw us a curveball, (from small things comes big noise) and The Bike Thieves gave us a lesson in efficiency with a tight set crammed with great tunes with minimal exertion. The professionals make it look so easy.

What would a night of young bands in Cardiff be without someone bringing the metal? Step forward Sunset To Morning and Inside The Virus, who got the room ever-so-sweaty and ever-so-jumping.

All great nights though have one extra special highlight. If you were present you know that I’m going to say that the theSprout’s Xmas Jam’s special moment came when Kamikaze Veterans joined Inconsiderate Parking on stage to rip through the (hopefully Christmas number 1) Killing In The Name. I’m meant to say something like you had to be there, but by Jove what’s up there, it’s only a ruddy video of said cover!

TheSprout’s Xmas Jam was an absolute cracker (arf!) of a night… if we do say so ourselves!
