Save The Globe
Music lovers of Cardiff unite!
The Globe, the rather fabulous music venue on Albany Road in Roath needs your help.
Last September, the council revoked The Globe’s live music licence as a handful of local residents complained about the noise. It has stayed open until now thanks to the appeal process, but time is running out. The matter is to be settled by the end of February.
Now we’ve already lost one flippin’ ace venue in Cardiff in the churchy shape of The Point to these grumpy gits, and I’ll be damned if we’re losing another one. Yes we’ve got the Coal Exchange back but for who-knows-how-long? (I’m guessing that when they can get the cheap finance to redevelop the site, it’ll be curtains once more). And it’s not like they have all-nighters at The Globe.
Anyway to guarantee the venue’s future, The Globe needs to raise £25,000 for further sound insulation. So the Save The Globe campaign has been launched… and this is where you come in. The owner, Alan Jones is organising a special benefit concert and needs, well, bands to play and punters to come.
So if you’re in a band and want to help, drop them an email at info@theglobecardiff.com or if you’re more of a gig-goer keep an ear to the ground or indeed an eye on theSprout for details of when and possibly where the gig is going to take place. Alternatively you can sign up for their newsletter (click on the top right hand corner).
In the meantime the Save The Globe campaign have organised some warm up benefit shows which are listed below, as well as continuing to host the cream of the British music scene (check their site or our events calendar) and showing the rugby on the ruddy massive screen they have.
