The Globe enjoyed its first visit from many local metalheads tonight.

Good job the aural fodder on offer came from Taint, South Wales' favourite underground sons.

Kudos first to Atomck and Zonderhoof, the former of who kick us squarely in the early evening yarbles with their two-man frenzy of guitar, grindcore vocals and drum machine.

They occasionally threaten to sound like David Walliams' Vulva from Spaced doing Brutal Truth karaoke, but are nonetheless lauded for staying the right side of Pig Destroyer territory.

Sheer stoner pleasure describes Zonderhoof, their effortless chemistry carrying every seven-minute instrumental epic through the crowd like osmosis and commanding them to nod like toy dogs.

A few words wouldn't go amiss between tracks, but then why spoil any illusions?

Taint have been trucking for a long time, but it's good to see they still show no sign of crossing any commercial lines.

New tracks are in abundance, all of which are great and will no doubt find their way onto the incoming third album, but it's the likes of Poison Pen Attack and terminal pit-starter Drunken Marksman that have wallflowers moving forward and joining the small but frantic melee.

A few tech issues and subsequent gaps between songs has frontman Jimbob issuing an open apology to his band mates, but their usual blare fused with the outstanding acoustics the new venue has to offer means they can do little wrong sound-wise and can depart in the knowledge that the home crowd have been well fed.
