If you're yet to venture along the coast road between Cardiff and Newport that takes in Marshfield and St Brides, we recommend you do so this summer, albeit between downpours.
As well as the rural retreat the area offers, there are also a few diamond places to eat.
One of them is The Inn At The Elm Tree, originally an early 19th Century barn, now an AA, RAC and Wales Tourist Board five-star restaurant and inn.
Taken over by new manager and experienced chef Paul Matthews earlier this year and spruced to perfection, the venue has a variety of dining areas including outdoor decking, and a handful of unique luxury rooms complete with four-poster beds.
TheSprout was impressed by the collage of foodie quotations from the likes of Oscar Wilde that took up page two of the menu, which went on to offer some apetite-baiting starters like cheese souffl? on a Parmesan cream, and pea and herb risotto with poached smoked haddock.
The crab and coriander fishcake and deep-fried calamari won us over, the former being an aromatic but delicately flavoured patty of excellence, while the calamari was piping hot, succulent and lightly battered and came with a tomato and chilli dip that had a great kick.
For main it was over to the specials menu and it needs emphasising that my twice cooked pork belly with mustard mash and marjoram jus was just about the best cut of oink I've ever had. Crispy crackling complimented the strips of meat so tender that they barely required chewing.
My partner's roast rack of lamb with spring cabbage and a julienne of root vegetables with redcurrant and rosemary jus drew similar noises of approval, but to be honest I was in a pork trance.
A shared dessert of double chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce hit the sweet spot nicely, with the crispy exterior oozing liquid choccy.
Birthdays or romantic liaisons would be well celebrated here, where Paul and the family will be only too happy to press your gastric buttons in all the right places. ?
