Young + Frustrated?

The world has never been a straightforward place. Yet over the last couple of years things have seemed to get even murkier. The relationship between cause and effect appears more and more tenuous.
I don’t know about you but sometimes when I turn on the news it feels like I’m watching an incredibly complex TV show where I’ve missed the beginning of the program.
The same goes for what happens in the street, in schools, offices, bars and parks. It can be frustrating, daunting and confusing not knowing why things happen, or how you can influence and possibly change things.
One of ironies of our hyper-connected times, with the prevalence and popularity of social networking sites (such as Bebo, Facebook and MySpace) and mobile phones is that we are more alienated than ever.
Another is that with the rise of the Internet, which has given everybody access to vast information resources, has resulted in mistruths and falsities becoming more abundant than ever.
These issues of identity, belonging and citizenship as well as discrimination, relationships, drugs and alcohol, violent extremism, and criminality are all to be tackled in a series of workshops being held in City Hall on Wednesday 19 August between 1pm-5pm.
But the workshops aren’t just there to lecture you; they are designed to provide you with a space to discuss and explore issues and to propose ways forward with the issues raised.
The event is a collaboration between numerous bodies in Cardiff that work with young people including Cardiff County Council Youth Service and Race Equality First amongst others.
The workshops are to be held by The Young Muslims UK and will include lunch and a performance by the group Mecca 2 Medina.
