SWITCH Cymru

SWITCH Cymru

Target Group: N/A

Learning
Switch can help you with learning all sorts of new things; whether for fun, to keep up with the children, do more to help your community or to help your job prospects. What is different about SWITCH is that you can do so at a local community centre run by local volunteers who will give you support and help. There are all sorts of courses and materials that you can look at available over the internet and we'll also be running short courses at your local centre. If you're not used to computers we will help you. We can help with reading, writing, number skills and learning to use computers plus a whole lot more.
Employment and Training
In time Switch intends to help people improve their job prospects whether or not you are currently in work. The learning option can help you to gain new skills and some of the internet links available will give advice on what skills you need for a particular job. There is also information on job vacancies "on-line". In time we want to develop a much better service at local centres giving advice on training and job opportunities. Help us to develop this.
Advice and guidance
Some of the centres involved in Switch already offer an excellent range of advice services to their communities. In time we want to extend this to all of the centres, so they will all be able to offer advice on benefits, legal issues, housing, immigration, dealing with bodies like the Council, Health service, gas, electricity etc.
Volunteering and more active communities
One of our intentions is to help communities help themselves. We want people to become more active, to volunteer to help out with making them better places to live. We will need volunteers with all sorts of skills but the most important things are to have a genuine interest and energy. We can provide the training and support to help you get new skills. Being a volunteer could even help with job prospects. Interested?
Health
For almost all the communities involved in Switch, health matters are a big issue. In the long term Switch would like to do things to improve people's health.
