Maze Advocacy
Target Group: N/A
We are the Maze Advocacy Project and we provide an advocacy service to young people age 6-19 in Somerset and Cardiff who are in emotional or mental distress.
Our project started life as an idea between two organisations (Advocacy in Somerset and Tros Gynnal) who realised that young people in emotional and mental distress often don’t have many choices and options about where to get help and support, especially around knowing their rights and getting their views heard by the adults involved in their lives.
These two organisations worked together to get funding from the Big Lottery fund to set up Maze Advocacy and run it for three years in Somerset and Cardiff. While doing this they are going to write a guide for other people who want to set up similar projects for young people in their own local areas.
The project officially started life in April 2006 and launched its service to young people in November of that year. It is becoming increasingly known about and used by children, young people and adults in both areas.
