10 Reasons To Go To Watusi Festival
1. This is Watusi Festival’s first ever year. It looks wicked and if it develops (like most festivals seem to be these days) then you can boast that you were at the first legendary Watusi Fest.
2. It’s on September 10th- 12th, making it one of the last festivals of the summer season. Make the most of it, there’s another 10 months until Glastonbury.
3. If you’ve run out of money because it’s the last festival of the season then they’ll let you volunteer in return for a free ticket. AND they’ll feed you.
4. Under 18’s are welcome and Under 12’s go free. This family friendly take on a festival means it’s going to be a chilled out affair in the daytime – so you can save your energy for when the acoustic stage gets turned into the dance tent at night.
5. It’s by the sea!
6. You get over 50 acts, several activities, and two nights camping for £40. That’s a total bargain when compared to other festivals’ £100 plus fees.
7. By doing some genius investigative journalism I have deduced that the secret location of Watusi Festival is Barry (clues were: located by the sea, West Cardiff, 25 minutes away, in the CF62 area). Barry is a very up-and-coming location these days. Just ask Stacey West.
8. ‘Watusi is a word with many meanings. A 1960s rock and roll dance craze, a people of central Africa, a Texan reggae band, a 1959 Hollywood B-movie, a breed of cattle with six-foot horns, and an album by the Wedding Present. We like these meanings; they have energy and diversity.’ We like them too, Watusi.
9. It’s eco-friendly - there’s an entire zone dedicated to being green. We’re especially excited about the Guerrilla Gardening Gathering (mmmm, alliteration) and the Re-Vamp and Re-Use workshop. See you at the eco-library bell tent?
10. The music. This is obviously what underpins a good festival. Watusi is covering all bases with festival, world, disco, house, afrobeat, folk, dubstep, latin, reggae, electronic and rock music.
Convinced yet?? Click here for a ticket or better still, go to Spillers. That way you support a local business while attending a local festival.
