Fairwater Volunteers Aid Street Games
Thirteen young people from Fairwater have joined The Street Games Volunteers Scheme. Aged sixteen to twenty, these young people assist with the running of The Street Games Sessions at Fairwater Leisure Centre, an action-packed hour and half of activities ranging from football to basketball and street dance to cheerleading.
If you’re between ten and fifteen then head down there on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4.30pm – 6.00pm, it won’t cost you a penny as the funding comes from Safer Cardiff via Transforming Neighbourhood Tasking scheme.
Oh and the volunteers know what they’re doing as they’ve been trained up in emergency first aid as well as other things to make them more employable. Soon they’ll be doing community sports leader, football leader and TAG rugby leader awards which will then enable them to gain skills and experience in coaching.
The programme is also designed so volunteers can gain additional nationally recognised qualifications. These can include NPLQ’s, Gym Instructors, Fork Lift Truck Driving, First Aid at Work and car driving lessons which will help with employability and develop their skills further.
To find out more information about the project please contact the Project Manager Katrina Jackson at Fairwater Leisure Centre 029 2055 2210.
