Food Market Harvests Awards
Do you like funny-shaped bread, wonky vegetables, scary looking cheese and pun-tastic real ale? Then you sir are a foodie! And by Jove are you lucky to be in Cardiff! For our fair city is home to the Riverside Community Market Association, which runs the Roath Real Food Market and the Riverside Market.
I should add the award-winning RCMA!
For they won Gold (Gold! Always Believe In Your Soul…) at this year’ Wales True Taste & Drink Awards in the Local Sourcing Initiative section.
Not only that they were runner-up (once again!) at the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards. That puts them in the top three farmers markets in the whole of the UK.
Prince Charles and Lady CaCa love all this kind foodie business and promised to make an appearance at the market next time they’re in Wales. Which seeing that he’s the Prince of Wales shouldn’t be too long now, should it?
The Roath Market is every Saturday, between 9:30am-1pm in car park at front of Mackintosh Sports Club on Keppoch Street, near Albany Road and City Road CF24 3JW.
While the Riverside Market is every Sunday, between 10am-2pm at Fitzhamon Embankment in Riverside, right opposite the Millennium Stadium. Cardiff CF11 6AN.
Get your seasonal grub from down the market and save those food miles! There are also local craft stalls at the markets in the run up to crimbo so you can kill two (organic, free-range) birds with one stone and get Christmas sorted.
