A group of girls from Shirenewton have recently taken part in Fashion Wales Live 2009.

The show showcases local singers, rappers, live bands, street dancers and breakdancers alongside designers, hair and make-up artists, models and more.

They worked hard to come up with their own garments, practiced their choreography and took part in make-up workshops.

Stephanie Pike spoke with two of the girls, Scarlett and Chantelle, to find out about their experience:

Stephanie: So girls, tell me about your collection...
Chantelle: It is A Gypsy Wedding.
Scarlett: On a gypsy wedding day we like to have lots of jewellery and be glamorous. Each of us have a certain part in the show to play. Victoria is the bride, Alicia and Nicole are the bridesmaids, Kathleen is the best woman, Demi and Bernadette are flower girls, me, Chantelle, Shannon and Charlotte are wedding guests.

Stephanie: How long did you work to prepare for the show?
Scarlett: Almost six months. It's a lot of work, but we all made a good progress on it. It's really interesting. We feel like we are better friends at the end of it as we worked a lot together as a team.
Chantelle: We have been meeting up every Wednesday. We like it as we got something to do and chat with friends. I have definitely grown closer with some of the girls during this time.

Stephanie: And how do you feel now that the project has come to an end?
Scarlett & Chantelle: It was very, very kushti!
Chantelle: It will be really boring now. There will be nowhere to go, nothing to do... We'll have to stay at home. We really looked forward to our workshops and had somewhere to go.

Scarlett: We feel quite sad. I feel disappointed as I'm always looking forward to our meetings. It's been good to come to our community centre here in Shirenewton and have a laugh with friends and meet tutors that teach different skills. We really enjoyed ourselves.

There was a great film made by young people from two communities about gypsy heritage in Wales recently shown in theatre in Pembrokeshire theatre.
