WORDS: Yasmin Begum (Youth Editorial Group)

Inspired by the punk ethic of do it yourself, Peroxide Gigs are a non-profit gig organisers and promoters who are up in the Rhymney Valley. Aberbargoed to be exact.

They're a fairly new thing on the scene these days, but that hasn't stopped them at all. Peroxide Gigs put on their first gig in April of 2008, a Faslane Peace Camp benefit with local rockers Raise This Sail and solo-artist Tristan Fernie performing at the Duffryn Pub.

A few gigs later and they're still on top form, a refreshing thing to see when so many people organise stuff like this and never go through with it. They're always looking for people to help out and are eager to get something like this in the Cardiff or Newport area, so if this sounds like you cup of tea get in touch with them.

Their MySpace profile reads, "Don't moan about your local music scene, if there arent any gigs in your area then sort it out. If you dont do it, no one else will," and Peroxide Gigs have followed that perfectly.

They're putting on a gig this Halloween, with the Up The Duff Halloween Bash. Performers include ex-Fix Up member Gizmo (dub reggae acoustic), The Stillborns (alternative / ambient / punk), The Melephobes (Ska-punk from Cardiff), Cardiffian punk / ska / hardcore outfit Energetically Challenged and Cosmo (acoustic / folk / alternative and highly recommended) playing at the Duffryn-Newydd pub. There's also camping available for after the gig just incase you've got nowhere to crash. Just message or comment them on MySpace. All proceeds are going to Everyone's Child - a children's charity based in Romania. Entry is £3 or £2 if you're in fancy dress - bargain.

If you fancy some fantastic punk rock in a decent setting with some interesting new people and done to the DIY ethic of punk, this gig is definitely for you.
