Homework Stress

Now school has restarted the homework has started piling up. Those of you who do out-of-school clubs will know how difficult it can be to stay on top of it all. Here are some tips that might be useful for those who find themselves in a similar situation.
1) Staying on top of it all
Make sure you keep ahead of your homework. From the moment it is set, try to do as much as you can when you get home. A couple of maths questions doesn’t take more than ten minutes to do and it's best to get the easy stuff out of the way before you have too much homework to cope with. If you are set a long project that will probably take a couple of weeks or maybe some homework that will take a bit of time and effort, then make sure you do a little bit in each timeslot you have.
2) Schedules
Try making a homework schedule to let you know when to do homework and when to relax. Make sure you don’t do too much in one sitting of homework; make sure you give yourself time to relax for a little bit so your brain is not over worked or producing sloppy work. This type of schedule can also work when it is time for revision and you'll find you work better and concentrate more after little intervals of rest and relaxation.
3) Weekends
Try not to leave all your homework for the weekend; you don’t want to be spending your weekends drawing up timelines and whatnot. Although weekends can be the best opportunity to catch up with your homework, make sure you have done at least some of it during the week.
4) Stress
Try not to get stressed when the deadline approaches ever closer, just carry on working and avoid distractions, such as going on Facebook for half an hour and then never getting off it until you have no time to finish your homework to the standard you want.
5) Homework groups
Homework groups are a great way of getting homework done on time and to a great standard. Get together with a couple of your friends after school for an hour or two and do your homework together. It will save time on unnecessarily pondering over a question, as you can help each other out with things you don’t understand. The other plus of a homework group is that you find you have less distractions, especially if you meet in a library. You will be able to get stuck into the homework and complete it quickly and neatly. The only thing you must be aware of in a homework group is that it is not an excuse to go mess around with your mates, save that for when you’re finished.
6) Stuck on homework
Finally, if you get stuck on your homework don’t just leave it. Your teacher won't appreciate you turning up empty handed saying "I didn't get my homework, Miss". If you’re stuck, ask a parent/guardian to see if they know anything about it. In most cases though, you parent might not be able to understand the complicated terms used in our homework such as "algebraic equations" or the correct vocabulary in German, unless they’re a teacher or whatnot. So maybe you should try phoning a friend, he/she may understand and help you figure it out.
Do not simply ask them for the answers or what they've done because (I'm sure you've heard it before) you won't learn anything. If the boot is on the other foot, you shouldn’t give you answers out to anyone because it won’t help them and they'll only end up asking for more.
If you are still none the wiser, do some research on the internet, or if you don’t have the internet, go to the library and use their computers or books to look for information. Don’t copy and paste anything as again you won’t learn anything and teachers these days are very good at telling when someone hasn't done the work themselves. Make sure you understand what you're reading (I know how hard it is to translate what Wikipedia is saying) before attempting to put it in your own words.
After this you should hopefully understand your homework but if not just try your best to complete what you can. A teacher appreciates that a lot more than if you come in empty handed. Explain that you tried your best but you didn't understand what was set and they'll try to help you in the future.
I hope this has helped with your homework dilemmas and that you can happily stay on top of your homework without getting too stressed out or getting kicked into detention.
