Ice, An Eye + Some Donuts

Jot this date down in your diary (if you still have one), Thursday November 12th. For this is the glorious first day of the schadenfreude festival outside the City Hall.
Officially called the bmibaby Cardiff Winter Wonderland by officials, sponsors and media twerps or the Winter Wonderland by people who talk normally, the event is back for a ninth successive year.
Once again they’re going to have the outdoor ice-rink, which provides fabulous free entertainment. Stand on the sides and laugh your guts up as fools (who are easily parted from their money – it’ll be £8.50 to get on the ice at peak times) slip, slide and fall for your amusement. Truly a gift that keeps on giving.
Also at the wonderland will be the John Lewis Eye, who ever he is. It is yet another massive Ferris wheel that is not as big as the London Eye and has a less impressive view than the London Eye, so you have to wonder why they insist in calling it an Eye. Apparently you can book “flights” on it, which doesn’t say much for their faith in its safety.
Other entertainments at the wonderland are due to be announced shortly, just like who will be turning on the Christmas lights this year, which is the traditional curtain-raiser for the winter wonderland and for moaning about how the lights are not as pretty as they were last year.
