International Food?

Promises were high with the endless promotion of Cardiff's International Food And Drink Festival this weekend.
Unfortunately they didn't deliver.
A mountain of food was there, that is for certain, although it didn't appeal to everyone.
The site was attractive, however, with little stores dotted everywhere on the Roald Dahl Plass and a large stage with a good, decent soundsystem to accomodate the various bands that were playing throughout the weekend.
The acts on Saturday included Tattysyrup - a ska band comprised completely of men my Father's age - and a band who parodied the Cuban band, Buena Vista Social Club.
The festival was expectantly full of Welsh food including Welsh cakes, beef and lamb. Cheese was everywhere, with many eclectic stalls being opened such as the Isle Of Wight garlic stall.
Everything was unsurpisingly and utterly packed. Even the surrounding pubs and restaraunts had an hour long weight for food, not to mention the 20-minute wait for a table in some of the more popular eateries such as Nando's.
Every type of meat seemed to be available, but vegetarians were left with bog standard Quorn sausage rolls or, even worse, generic pasta and vegetarian dishes. Despite the adjective 'international', everything was heavily European-biased which left many of us bored with the food that was around.
There were no Middle-Eastern or Indian dishes to be found. There was no halal or kosher meat, which if available would have pulled in a more diverse crowd.
A heavy pour of rain deterred some, although not most, with many people deciding to be merry outside of the crowded sheltered areas with locally brewed cider.
