  • Blonde Louis

Blonde Louis are an up and coming band that are just waiting for their big break and I got the chance to interview them and review their gig.

Blonde Louis played at Clwb Ifor Bach on Monday (21st February) and they really are one of the greatest bands I have ever seen and heard. If you have never heard their music it is well worth a listen as before I went to see them I had not heard of them and now they are one of my favourite bands. I will be following them all the way and hope they make it big. When they release their first album, I will definitely be getting it and will be advising all of my friends and family to have a listen.

The band consists of Josh Clarke, Jack Cherry, Jack Cox and Harvey Downes

How did you all meet?

Josh Clarke and Jack Cherry met at school, Harvey and Josh are cousins and Harvey and Jack Cox were in school together in the same year.

Who inspires you?

There are so many that inspire us but if we had to pick just one that inspires us all, it would be The Killers.

Where did you get the name Blonde Louis from?

We got the name Louis from The Jungle Book, when Josh was younger he used to sing the King Louis song so it was his nickname and we just thought blonde sounded good.

When did you decide to become a band?

When Josh and Cherry were in Year 7 (2006) but we've been jamming together since 2003.

How old are you all?

Jack Cox is 18, Harvey is 18, Jack Cherry is 19 and Josh is 20.

Who would you most like to sing with?

Jessie J or N-Dubz

Was your dream always to become famous or did you want to do something else?

Harvey wanted to be a footballer, Jack Cox wanted to be a drummer, Jack Cherry wanted to be part of the royal family and Josh had always been into music.

Have you worked with anyone famous? If so who?

We worked with N-Dubz producer (Tom Fuller), played at festivals where we bumped into Olly Murs and shared a recording studio with Diana Vickers.

How old were you all when you started the band?

We were all around 15.

Are you all original band members and who started the band?

Jack Cherry and Josh started the band then Jack Cox started four years ago and Harvey started two years ago.

Where has been your best gig so far?

Rhythms Of The World which is a local festival where we live. There were 6000 people present.

How many songs do you have to date?

Fifty to sixty songs. We play a set of around twelve to fifteen per gig.

Who writes the songs?

We sit around the table together and all have input in the songs.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Harvey and Josh are Arsenal supporters and like to watch TV while the Jacks like to go to gigs.

What music do you like to listen to?

We try to use today’s music as input towards our music.

What band would you most compare yourself to?

Somewhere in between McFly and Kings of Leon.

What genre would you class your music as?

Guitar pop/raw pop/pop rock.

Have you ever done anything for charity if so what?

Gigs for charity, a girls school for Ghana/fair-trade/high fields.

Where would you like to be in the next five years?

As far as we could be and next year record an album.

Are any of you related?

Harvey and Josh are cousins on the mother’s side and Jack Cox has been with Harvey’s sister for three years.

Can any of you do any impressions?

Jack Cherry can do a mean Susan Boyle impression.

Are there any other singers or famous people in your families?

Josh’s mum used to teach in the West End and Harvey’s mum was in a four piece band.

Whose job is what in the band?

Josh Clarke - guitarist and lead vocals
Harvey Downes - guitarist
Jack Cox - drummer
Jack Cherry - bass player

Is there anything you would like to add to this interview?

We would like dancers and fireworks on stage. 2011 spread the word about band, we appeal to younger audiences. Josh would like to see N-Dubz and is a bit of a Lady Gaga fan.
