Love Songs?

  • Anyone remember tapes?

Who doesn’t long for someone to hold, who knows how to love you without being told?

‘Cause with every kiss and every hug, you make me fall in love

I met a guy at the club; I let him know I’m in love

I love you!

I love you!

I love you!

No thanks, we've heard enough.

Seriously, it’s time R&B singers stopped singing their hearts out about love. I’m not a love song hater, in fact I quite like most love songs but when they’re performed by the likes of Alicia Keys, Cheryl Cole and Chris Brown they seem to bore me with their hollow, meaningless words of affection.

Should we start with Cheryl Cole? In my opinion, she’s the most detestable one of the many phoney love song singers. Hurling abuse at this singer will probably not get me anywhere but she might just be as fake and annoying as Hannah Montana (*cough* will not hurl abuse *cough*) I could name endless songs where the lyrics continuously proclaim and announce love in undying and unconditional circumstances in which all her trust and love is thrown onto one, and only one, man.

I love you...

I love you...

I love you...

You are the love of my life.

Aw okay that’s quite sweet!

Now everyday ain’t gon' be no picnic,

Love ain’t no walk in the park,

All you can do is make the best of it now,

Can’t be afraid of the dark.

Well, that’s true. And you must know because you’re in love, as you just mentioned.

I won't fall out of love,

I won't fall out of,

I won't fall out of love.

No, I’m sure you won’t, because you just said-hold on a second, are these about the same people?

Love is brutal,

My heart is fragile.

No. I’m drawing the line here. You better make up your mind! How many times have you fallen in love!?

The lyrics to most of her songs are so annoying. Fair enough, I understand you can be creative with songs. You can make up a world or make up a character that are infatuated with another and make a wonderful song out of it. But like poetry, songs with meaningful, truthful lyrics are very effective and most importantly they are good!

How can these signers constantly drag on about their otherworldly love when they so clearly are not capable of sticking to these words?

I’m not as narrow-minded to believe that every love song is a fake proclamation of love. I do in fact believe that it is nice to have a melody you can sing in your head when you think of someone you truly love or to even recite these words to a sweetheart.

Songs such as My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You and Can You Feel The Love Tonight? by Elton John bring together the whole picture of what love really is. Some may find these songs cheesy but these have found their way into immortality when it comes to love songs. These are the ones that express how they feel through shear talent and voice alone. These are the songs that do not need a pain-in-the-neck whistle or heavy bass or a remix!

When it comes to loves songs I do enjoy the thought of this wonderful world where you can fall in love with one person and live happily ever after. I do not enjoy the thought of every rap star and Cheryl Cole falling in love again! In fact, some may even contradict their “reputation”. Aw Chris Brown, your songs, your lyrics they’re all so touching: You love someone so much it confuses you, you sang -

Is this love because I gotta know,

Is this real girl I gotta know?

Is it you taking over my heart?

Oh that’s so inspiring, taking over your heart! You’re in love! Hmm... wait, didn’t you assault Rhianna? I'm absolutely for a "gangster" love song singer who means his words and wants to produce a big-seller about his feelings but could he at least not get his violence publicised if he wants to become a good love song seller.

I’m more a fan of songs that express real life situations, real things that would most likely happen. Lady Gaga for example is one of my favourites; I love Paparazzi because of the way it describes her obsessions for someone in a slightly stalker-ish fashion. The lyrics are powerful yet humorous describing the lengths one person will go for another in a situation similar to life. However the events in the song most likely did not happen to Lady Gaga; she most probably made it all up. But all I can say is at least it is not another clone, copy or remake of another meaningless love song.

You may also think I’m singling out R&B singers in particular while avoiding pop and other genre singers' love songs. OK let’s take Scouting For Girls then. I do not take a disliking to R&B love song singers just because of their ridiculous lyrics, remixes and annoyance factor nor simply because I do not like the style of music. Scouting For Girls make love songs work, Cheryl Cole does not. Simple words such as “She’s so lovely!” are not absurd proclamations of love but sweet, catchy words of affection. Their songs have a catchy acoustic ring to them, making it fun to listen to them and get involved with the story behind their music, the same goes for the likes of The Beatles and The Script (unlike *cough* Cheryl Cole *cough*).

It seems I’m the only one who does not like Cheryl Cole and when I ask if others like her, the answer always seems to be "Of course!" but from those with more sense, the answer is commonly along the lines of "Not in so many words...", but I still ask what is it about her that makes her such an idol? I’m sure their are some who genuinely like her music and think she’s a great singer but it just doesn’t seem to work for me; the whole I-can-judge-talent-even-though-i’m-only-really-famous-now-because-of-the-x-factor-thing. Oh well, I guess I better not stand in the way of these annoying beat box Valentine’s sonnets, Shakespeare would surely be proud, wouldn't he?

In fact these songs may have just inspired me to write a soon to be world-famous new love song that will sweep the charts of my own, this is how it’ll go…

I’m so undyingly in love,

I think I love you,

*heavy beat box*

Your my one and only,

I love you,

*wolf whistle*

Let’s get married!

I L.O.V.E YOU...”

Hmm, I think it still needs work, It's not expressing my love deeply enough. Hey Cheryl! I need some help here...!

haha true my friend, for good love songs people need to check out subtle love songs I think, like bright eyes - lua , Regina Spektor - us or Azure ray - rise...the lyrics aren't about love really but the melody of the music is easily a lot better fitted to a love song

I didn't say I didn't like love songs- I actually mention that I do like them, alot. Just not the r&b annoying ones. I guess it's my own personal opinion like I mention in the article but I can't stand that sort of music. I said nothing about not liking love songs, I try not to listen to Cheryl Cole and co but their always on the radio so that's another reason they are becoming more and more detestable. I apologize if you like that type of music, but I really do not- it's just my opinion.

can i politely ask Chelseaa if the whole point you went on the sprout was to critiisize peoples's work? Writing articles is very hard, and sambow did an amazing job. Like the phrase goes "if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything"

I actually think this aritcle is really good Sambow,
Chelseaa for someone who doesn't even write articles yourself, you shouldn't critisize so harshly about Sambows, I'm not saying that it's bad to critisize but it should of at least been a constructive critisizsm.
but yeah, I agree with fattigalupo333. If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything.

Got something to say?
