The National Museum Cardiff is usually such a peaceful place. It’s an oasis of calm from the hustle and bustle of our city centre… except this month.

Every Thursday evening through April there are a series of gigs curated by Swn in support of the Artes Mundi 4 Exhibition. Oh and they’re free gigs to boot.

As the beret wearers amongst you know Artes Mundi is the Wales International Visual Art Exhibition and Prize. They’ve been exhibiting the eight short-listed works since March, but if you haven’t been yet, then here’s your excuse. What better way to view art than to the soundtrack of some of Wales’ finest musicians?

Each Thursday has a similar structure, with the first act on at 6pm, a guided tour of the exhibition at 7pm and the second band at 8pm. Simple as.

The museum café will be open for coffees and cake (or something a little stronger) throughout the performances, so it’s perfect for a bit of post-work/after-school cultural chillaxing. Word is Starbucks will be handing out free coffee samples too.

Free music, free art and free coffee… what more could you ask for?

Hey, are you going to any of these gigs? Fancy writing a review for us? Email us (arielle@thesprout.co.uk) and let us know!
