Ninian Farewell Party

This Saturday 16 May at 10am Ninian Park will get the send off it and Cardiff City fans deserve.

This hastily arranged Party In The Park was drawn up after the damp squib that followed The Bluebirds’ 3-0 drubbing by Ipswich Town.?

The majority of the crowd slipped away, saving their farewells for an expected playoff semi-final. The rest of the crowd that stayed behind hi-jacked the beach balls and the confetti for a tongue-in-cheek farewell to on-loan USA striker and cult-hero Eddie Johnson (two goals in 33 games).

Somehow City snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, accumulating one point from the last four games of the season, missing out on the playoffs by the slightest of margins.

What’s the difference between a pyromaniac and Cardiff City? A pyromaniac would never throw away their last four matches BOOM BOOM!

Rather than hold a memorial match, which in all likelihood would be poorly attended, what with the current disillusionment of City fans and the fact that pre-season fixtures have already been arranged with Celtic and Valencia at the new stadium, the powers that be have decided to throw open the doors of Ninian Park and allow fans a peak behind the scenes of the 99-year-old stadium.

Fans will also be allowed on to the pitch, so expect lots of middle-aged men booting a ball into the Grange End goal and wheeling away doing the ayatollah, before chomping a Clark’s Pie as the food and drink will be half-price too.

Entry is free, so there’s no excuse not to head on down to see the old girl one last time and say goodbye to a sporting and cultural landmark that has stood in this city for almost a century.
