South Wales Police are asking members of the public who might have information to contact them (they can do so anonymously) in order to bring the men responsible to justice.
Below is a copy of the appeal for information released by the police:
On Sunday, April 11 Aamir Siddiqi was murdered in the Roath area of Cardiff.
Aamir, aged 17, died following an incident at his family’s home address in Ninian Road at around 1.40pm. Many of you will know Aamir Siddiqi or his family or friends and will no doubt be shocked and saddened by what has taken place. South Wales Police wanted to give you as much information as possible on what has taken place and details on our investigation.
At around 1.40pm on Sunday two masked men forced their way into the family home and stabbed Aamir. This was a horrific incident witnessed by Aamir’s mother and father who were both seriously injured in their attempts to come to their son’s assistance. Aamir was a talented young man from a loving family who had a bright future ahead of him. There is no motive at this stage as to why anyone would wish to harm Aaamir and extensive enquiries are underway to trace those responsible.
Police still wish to trace two men seen in the area shortly after the incident. Male one is described as being of Asian appearance, aged late 20s, of average height, stocky build. He had dark hair and was wearing dark clothing. The second male is described as being of Asian appearance, aged early 20s, of slim build, 5ft 11ins in height. He was wearing a white jacket with a grey stripe down the sleeves. As they made their way towards Shirley Road they were seen to be pulling black-knitted balaclavas over their faces.
Officers want to hear from anyone who may have seen these men in the area or who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Ninian Road area on Sunday, April 11.
Chief Superintendent Bob Tooby, Divisional Commander for Cardiff, said: “This was an extremely serious and unusual incident and I wish to reassure residents and the wider community that a full investigation is on-going to arrest those responsible. Aamir’s family and friends are understandably going through an unbelievably traumatic time and South Wales Police is doing all we can to support them. Incidents like this are extremely rare in Cardiff, as they are across South Wales, but extra patrols have already been put in place.”
Witnesses, or anyone with information, is asked to contact the Incident Room at Cardiff Central Police Station on 02920 571530 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
