Short Story: Playing With Lives - Part One

Danny started to feel a natural breeze across his face as he broke into a lightning sprint. It was just him, against a group of five rugby players. Any average fifteen-year-old wouldn't stand a chance.

Well, Danny wasn't average. He was different, more skilled you could say. He looked behind him and saw only four jocks. Must of been chicken, Danny thought to himself. They were about five meters behind him and they were slowing down. But Danny wasn't. He concentrated on his direction more.

He was down Knight Avenue. To his left was Bushbury Road and to his right was Tyrant Street. Tyrant Street was a dead end. They had just come from Blue Mountain High School. This had all started with the lead jock – Martin - stealing Danny's cousin's lunch money. Danny threw a stone at Martin's car and broke the window. This was an average day for Danny. Getting chased, in trouble and showing off because everyone knew that he was like a ninja.

Bushbury Road was blocked off by the police. He was heading down Tyrant Road which was a mistake. Danny already knew what he was going to do. He slowed down so the jocks were about a meters behind him and stayed that pace. He waited until he was five meters in front of the end wall and picked up his pace to how it was before. He planted both feet high up against the wall and kicked back. He back flipped behind the Jocks and sped to the entrance of the street.

He was cut short though when the missing jock - who had apparently not chickened out - was standing there, blocking the entrance, with another ten people from the rugby team backing him up.

"Oh, great" mumbled Danny to himself.
