On Friday May 22nd, theSprout popped down Grangetown way to witness the first ever SIBS Presentation in Wales.

Ten young people from across Cardiff, who are regarded as NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training), partook in an intense three week course based around performance and design skills.

From learning to juggle to writing lyrics, graphic design to stilt walking, these young people demonstrated the ability to quickly learn new skills and communicate effectively.

All ten participants completed the course and earned Bronze Arts Awards. To do this they not only had to perform their new skills, sound-tracked by music they created, but also teach these skills to other people. Watch the video to see the results.

It is vital that organisations such as UNITAS, Sporttrain and Careers Wales continue to reach out to lose neglected by traditional educational structures and programmes like this are a fantastic approach to this issue.

The Awards are a showcase for a scheme that will hopefully be rolled out across Wales soon, so keep your eyes peeled for the posters.
