Sinfonia Newydd This Winter
This season, Sinfonia Newydd – a Cardiff-based new music and art company – presents, quite possibly, the most creatively innovative programme of new music and art in the name of Cardiff-based arts projects.
The Sinfonia Newydd autumn/winter 2011 programme kicks off on Sunday 6th November 2011 with a contemporary chamber music and art double-bill. At 1pm the Sinfonia Newydd Chamber Series will present a new music and art exhibition across the six brand new Contemporary Art Galleries at the National Museum Cardiff where composers have used contemporary art pieces from the full range of Wales' world class contemporary art collection to inspire a programme of brand new chamber music works.
This will be shortly followed by the launch of SN Jazz – Sinfonia Newydd's brand new jazz division aimed at promoting new jazz music through a series of contemporary jazz and classical music fusion events – at 4.30pm on the Glanfa stage at the Wales Millennium Centre. SN Jazz will launch as part of the Mega Messiah – a huge charity fundraising scratch performance of Handel’s Messiah – with a unique programme of composed and improvised jazz works based upon famous melodies from Handel's Messiah.
Toks Dada, Sinfonia Newydd Founder, Artistic & Managing Director and Mega Messiah Orchestral Manager says “The first day in our new concert season programme truly represents the ethos of Sinfonia Newydd and is a huge milestone in our work within Wales’ contemporary music scene. Not only are we continuing to engage in the collaborative use of contemporary art and music via our chamber event in the new contemporary art galleries at the National Museum Cardiff but also, through the launch of SN Jazz, showcasing the musical diversity that Sinfonia Newydd prides itself upon.”
The concert season will close on Sunday 27th November 2011 with a truly innovative ensemble and chorus concert at 2.30pm in the newly built Dora Stoutzker Hall at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The programme will again feature a series of world première works but this time with a twist! Expect out of the ordinary use of voices, brace yourself for unique staging of performers and get ready to be taken on a Journey to Szentendre!
