Are you a registered Sprout user? If so you’ve got a profile. But to put it frankly they ain’t much to look at. This has come up in a couple of Sprout Editorial Group Meetings and it’s time we address the issue.

We’ve had a look at ways you can customise your profile, such as submitting info and pics the same way you do with an article. We soon found out it was too hard to implement. So we’ve come up with this. If you want an avatar or some info on your profile then post it in the comments section below.

There are a few caveats though. Due to the unique way theSprout is funded we cannot allow personal information in your Sprout profile, such as your name, age, school and so forth. This includes links to things outside of theSproutiverse.

Regards pictures, we cannot have real pictures. By a real picture I mean one of your face or something that easily identifies you. So it has got to be an avatar, something symbolic that represents you or your username. Previously we’ve chosen these in a rather will-nilly manner but we want to hand it over to you.

The picture also has to be copyright free so we don’t get sued. A quick and easy way to grab cool pictures with no copyright issues is by using Compfight (we use this for pretty much every Sprout article we publish). It searches Flickr images by the tags people use. Make sure you select "Creative Commons" on the left-hand side to access copyright free images.

Once you’ve found a picture with which you are happy, post the URL in the comment section along with your info and we’ll get it up ASAP.
