  • Why the brolly?

"Summer breeze makes me feel fine..."

And ruddy bored.

The summer holidays, bless 'em, can stretch out for what seems like forever if you have nothing planned.

And this is where theSprout comes in. Listed below are links to all sorts of activities happening over the summer. Most of them are free, so what's stopping you?

--------------------

Active Street @ Various locations

Active Street returns once again with the ill behaviour. Didn't catch it last time? Well Active Street is what happens when Cardiff County Council rock up to various parks across the city over the summer, with a load of equipment in tow for all-sorts of sports and activities. These include tag rugby, street hockey, dodge ball, street dance and skateboarding amongst other things. To find out when they are coming to a park near you, click here for the pdf document. All activities are completely free. 11+

Park Events & Guided Walks

The parks are an obvious destination for whiling away an afternoon or two, but beyond the swings and the benches our parks are filled with local history, bats and bugs, fishing workshops and rowing boats. Heck, if looking at war graves floats your boat, then even you are covered (pdf download). For the rest of you then click here for the pdf guide for dates and details.

The Leisure Centre

Your local leisure centre is neat choice for a rainy day, which there will be far too many of. To find out which leisure centres are doing what, when and for how much, click here to get the pdf explaining all, but if you are after something specific, say fencing or pilates then it might be worth having a look at Cardiff Council’s Leisure Activity Database.

Summer Learning Festival 2010 @ Various Locations

If all this talk of running about sounds like too much hard work, then why not exercise your brain instead?

The Summer Learning Festival 2010 is an awesome series of opportunities available to people in Years 7-10.

The free classes range from the creative arts, such as fashion design, ceramics and graffiti; Film and digital production sessions to include radio production, photography classes and web journalism from theSprout; Theatre sessions, including special effects training, circus skills and a Glee Club for mass singing of 80s power ballads; a rock school for those who wish to err rock, rap studio sessions, raft building and loads other incredible things such as building rockets, fire-fighting skills (possibly related), hairdressing, lifeguard training and more sports than you can shake a ruddy big stick at.

I’m only scratching at the surface here, so for a bit more info and  how to register read our article about the Summer Learning Festival, check the map to see what's happening near you and to find out about all the classes available and for dates and times click here for the pdf.
