The Imaginings of Susan Boyle's Pampered Pussy

You may be mildly amused by the title of this article. It is a rather amusing title, isn't it? But it's not just the title of this article, it's also the title of HarperCollins' next CHRISTMAS BESTSELLER! Of course, it hasn't been released yet, but we at theSprout have got the very first copy of it, signed, to review!

Written and illustrated by a girl from Cardiff, this book follows the story of SuBo's cat, the real reason for her becoming famous. What starts off as a light, frivolous story becomes darker, and funnier, as the plot goes on.

It's a graphic novel, so it would only take about ten minutes to read due to the lack of words, but it is definitely, definitely worth looking at!

While it's drawn like a comic, it's definitely not a children's book. Overall, I would give this graphic novel a 7/10: it has a wonderful and easy to follow storyline, and brilliantly funny moments, but there may be some jokes that you wouldn't expect the average child to get (or that you wouldn't really want to tell to a young child). That's not to say there's anything "bad" in it that you need to keep away from children, just that the humour is a dark and satirical view of society (particularly our obsession with shows like Britain's Got Talent and X Factor) so would appeal more to fans of The Bunny Suicides than The Beano.

Really, this book is definitely worth the £10 you may or may not spend on it, so pick up a copy for yourself to learn more about the cat who "got the cream, then projectile vomited it, exorcist style, into the face of any who stood in its path"!

Disclaimer: As a cat lover, I feel I should point out that not all cats are as devious as Susan's. Reading this book reminded me of Simon's Cat on YouTube, which has some great videos about what it's like to own a mischievous (but not evil!) cat. I wonder what SuBo's Cat would be like with a YouTube channel...
